Read This for Ultrafiltration Membrane Maintenance Tips

Jan,07,2026

Maintenance is essential during the use of ultrafiltration (uf)membranes, which typically involves physical cleaning and chemical cleaning.

For physical cleaning, simply rinse the surface of the ultrafiltration(uf) membrane with clean water using either forward or backward flushing after the equipment has completed its operation. This effectively removes attachments from the membrane surface. Chemical cleaning, on the other hand, requires selecting either acidic or alkaline cleaning based on the filtered water quality:

  • For removing inorganic pollutants such as colloids, suspended solids, and salts formed by ions like calcium, magnesium, iron, and aluminum, opt for acidic chemical cleaning using a 1–2% citric acid/oxalic acid solution or a 0.4% HCl solution.

  • For removing organic substances such as oils and pectin, as well as active biological pollutants, choose alkaline chemical cleaning with a solution of 0.1% NaOH and 0.05% NaClO (calculated as effective chlorine).

Proper maintenance of ultrafiltration(uf) membranes can significantly extend their service life, thereby naturally reducing overall costs.
