Successfully Delivered 15t/d Seawater Desalination Unit to Support Offshore Operations of Trailing Suction Hopper Dredgers

Recently, our company successfully delivered and commissioned a customized 15t/d seawater desalination Unit for a client. Set to be installed in the cabin of a newly built trailing suction hopper dredger, this unit will provide a stable fresh water supply for the vessel’s offshore operations. Its effluent quality fully complies with China’s Standards for Drinking Water Quality, meeting both the water replenishment needs of onboard equipment and the daily living requirements of the crew.

Customized Design for Complex Operating Environments

To address the challenges of complex and variable water quality as well as limited space during the dredger’s offshore operations, our company has specifically adopted an integrated treatment process: “disc filtration + two-stage sand filtration + ultrafiltration + cartridge filter + two-stage reverse osmosis.” This design not only effectively reduces raw water turbidity but also significantly extends the cleaning intervals of the reverse osmosis system, minimizes clogging risks, and ensures stable operation even under harsh water conditions.

Pretreatment Process: Multiple pretreatment stages—including disc filtration, two-stage sand filtration, and ultrafiltration—efficiently remove suspended solids, colloids, and other impurities, delivering high-quality feed water to the subsequent reverse osmosis system.

Two-Stage Reverse Osmosis Design: This design further enhances system stability, effectively counteracting the impact of feed water fluctuations on water quality and ensuring consistent effluent that meets drinking water standards.

Chemical Cleaning System: Equipped with a professional chemical cleaning unit, it enables regular maintenance cleaning of reverse osmosis membranes, ensuring long-term, efficient equipment operation.

The seawater desalination unit features PLC-based fully automated control, enabling seamless automated operation from water intake to effluent.
